Jared Curtis is currently a quarterback at Nashville Christian School in Bellevue, Tennessee. He is considered the No. 5 player in the 2026 class and had been committed to the University of Georgia.
The day before early signing day begins, Curtis made a switch. Instead of joining the Bulldogs in Athens, the quarterback will remain in Tennessee, flipping his commitment to Vanderbilt.
Unfortunately for the high school senior, he didn't initially get to break the news on his own. His flip was leaked on Dec. 2 by Hayes Fawcett, who said that Curtis told him the news. Curtis then in a now-deleted post said he didn't know where the report was coming from. Later, Curtis confirmed that he was flipping his commitment and said he was disappointed the media ran with it early, before he could make the announcement.

Why did Jared Curtis flip his commitment from Georgia to Vanderbilt
Curtis released a statement announcing his flip on Tuesday night. In it, he said, "Being here in Nashville, and seeing what Vandy has been doing this season has been amazing and over the past few weeks, I felt more and more that I wanna be a part of that, to be close to home, to play in front of my family and friends and to be what I love to be, an underdog. I am excited to be a Dore and excited to be part of building something here at home with Coach Lea."

That part of the quote is important. Lea's name was brought up in coaching carousel discussions this season. Instead of leaving, he signed a six-year extension with Vanderbilt. ESPN reported that Lea signed an extension, and the idea of taking over directly for Heisman hopeful Diego Pavia as a freshman, combined with enough intrigue caused Curtis to commit.
Who is Jared Curtis?

Highest-ranked Vanderbilt football recruits
Vanderbilt has undergone a culture change recently. The Commodores used to annually be at the bottom of the SEC, but head coach Clark Lea has started to turn the program around. Vanderbilt rarely signs a five-star recruit, but Curtis is definitely the highest-rated recruit in program history.
Previously, Vanderbilt's highest-ever recruit was wide receiver Jordan Cunningham, who was ranked No. 107 in the 2013 ESPN 300. Curtis is the first ESPN 300 recruit for the Commodores since 2023. Before he flipped, Vanderbilt's 2026 recruiting class was ranked 50th by ESPN.
