Nico Iamaleava remains day-to-day after leaving Saturday’s game for the UCLA Bruins with a “neck spasm.” According to coach Tim Skipper, the Tennessee transfer was “tackled funny” and tried to describe the situation during this week's press conference.
Iamaleava exited midway through the third quarter of the loss to the Washington Huskies after taking helmet-to-helmet contact and did not return. It was assumed he was dealing with a consussion. Before exiting, Iamaleava completed 16 of 26 passes for 69 yards, had two fumbles and no touchdowns.
This is a significant blow for the Bruins offense. Iamaleava entered the season with high expectations after throwing for 2,616 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2024. However, this season has been a struggle behind a shaky offensive line, with 1,728 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Skipper added the Bruins will not rush the quarterback’s recovery, making his status a key storyline heading into rivalry week against USC Trojans. “Right now, we’re still kind of waiting," Skipper said via On3. "He’s doing all his rehab stuff today. We’ll see where he is. I guess the best way to put it right now is he’s day-to-day. That’s where that is with Nico.”
