Lee Corso will say farewell to the College GameDay desk tomorrow at Ohio State. The tear-jerking tributes are already coming through. Nick Saban publicly praised Lee Corso ahead of Corso’s final appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay, calling him a “legend” who helped define the culture and excitement around college football broadcasts over nearly forty years.
“The one thing I think Lee Corso did -- and he did it with such grace — is he brought entertainment to this business,” Saban said, on The Pat McAfee Show.
“We used to just watch games, and people would call the game. But he made it entertaining, which is what you do and what we all have an opportunity to do for the fans. He made it better for the fans. It was more enjoyable. He’s got a great personality.
After retiring from coaching, Nick Saban joined ESPN's College GameDay as a regular analyst for the 2024 football season. He was officially announced as a member of the team in February 2024, and he made his first appearance on the show during the international broadcast from Dublin in Week 0, which took place in August 2024.
“Getting a chance to watch him work these last couple of years has been an honor. He’s been incredibly kind to me. And even before that, just as a fan watching him, I loved how he wasn’t afraid to go there, to spin it up and mix it up a little bit. That’s what makes it different.”
Corso’s final College GameDay show will air Saturday from Columbus, Ohio, before the much-anticipated Texas vs. Ohio State matchup, closing the chapter on one of college football’s most beloved eras.
