Florida State coach Mike Norvell will return for a seventh season with the Seminoles, according to a report from Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger.

The decision comes amid speculation about Norvell’s job security, which escalated after a 21-11 loss to NC State on Friday night.

The Noles opened the season by knocking off Alabama at home. Since then, dropped FSU to 5-6 on the season. Florida State must win at Florida this weekend to secure bowl eligibility.

Florida State is 7-16 over the past two seasons and 3-10 in ACC play. Yet, they have not won a road game during that span. Norvell’s tenure includes the 2023 ACC championship, and the coach has remained steadfast in his belief the program can rebound.

“I’ve got elite level confidence for what’s ahead of us,” Norvell said earlier this month. “I’ve actually won a championship, and we’re going to do it again."

One of the main points why FSU is retaining Norvell is a massive buyout. Moving on from him would have cost the university roughly $54 million in buyout money. That's not including an additional $22 million for staff salaries.
