BYU made it official Tuesday night: Kalani Sitake is staying put.

The school announced that Sitake and BYU football have agreed to terms on a long-term contract extension, keeping the program’s alum and head coach in Provo for the foreseeable future.

Sitake, approaching his 10th season leading the Cougars, has posted an 83-44 record since taking over in 2016. His BYU squad is preparing for Saturday’s Big 12 Championship Game in Arlington, Texas, where they will face Texas Tech.

BYU is ranked No. 11 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. A win in Arlington would likely secure the Cougars their first-ever berth in the modern CFP.

“We are excited to announce a long-term agreement to extend Kalani Sitake as BYU’s head football coach,” BYU athletic director Brian Santiago said in a statement. “He is a proven leader, and we are grateful he is once again choosing BYU. His legacy of building a championship program the BYU way will continue on. He is one of the best people in the business. We are excited to continue to ride the wave of positive momentum with him.”

Sitake expressed his gratitude for the extension and the support from university leadership.

“I am humbled and full of gratitude for the outpouring of love from BYU fans and the trust and support provided to our football program by our university leadership,” Sitake said. “This is good for the stability and future of BYU football. I’m excited about our future.”

Terms of the deal have not been disclosed and are unlikely to be, as BYU is a private institution. BYU and Texas Tech are set to kick off in the Big 12 Championship on Saturday, December 6, at 11 a.m. On ABC.
