Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Dylan Raiola has reportedly planned to cut ties with coach Matt Rhule and company to pursue the NCAA Transfer Portal on the same day his SEC counterpart, D.J. Lagway, did so Monday.
Assuming he follows through, Raiola's options seem widespread. But before even thinking about pledging elsewhere, one analyst revealed Raiola's biggest problem holding him back from becoming a can't-miss NFL Draft prospect in the coming years.
"Raiola wasn't a good fit in Nebraska's offense despite his family's connections to the program. He still has an NFL tools that can be unlocked in the right system," Pro Football Focus' Max Chadwick wrote.
Chadwick reported three possible landing spots include the Oregon Ducks (if Dante Moore leaves), the Arizona State Sun Devils and Miami Hurricanes.
Rhule recently commented on previous reports of Raiola leaving the Cornhuskers next season, which he was immediately stunned by in complete denial.
“I haven’t seen that report,” Rhule told reporters. In November. “I haven’t seen that, so I don’t know anything about that. I would never get up here and talk about a player. I love Dylan like I love all my guys. He’s in there doing treatment right now. So I don’t know about that.”
Regardless of what happens, the college football quarterback portal cycle has just begun and as far from over at least for the next couple weeks.
For now, though, only time will tell what Raiola's future will hold and whether Nebraska can recover from such a potentially gigantic loss.
The Cornhuskers will certainly be without Raiola for SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl against the Utah Utes, though, as they try to finish their season with eight wins.
Even though nothing is set in stone yet, the fallout from both sides is far from over.
Only time will tell.
