Alabama Crimson Tide quarterbacks don’t tend to go under the radar. Then again, few Alabama quarterbacks are like its current starter, Ty Simpson.
Formerly a five-star recruit, Simpson’s ascendancy isn’t exactly a surprise. But the nature by which he has progressed up Kalen DeBoer’s depth chart is somewhat unprecedented for a program of the Crimson Tide’s caliber.
Simpson has emerged as a steady presence under center for Alabama, ripping precise to the likes of Ryan Williams and Isaiah Horton. That didn’t seem all that likely one year ago.

Simpson is 22 years old. He’ll turn 23 on Dec. 21.

Simpson is a redshirt junior. He joined the Crimson Tide as an early enrollee in Jan. 2022 and featured in four contests as a true freshman before being redshirted. He played sparingly as a redshirt freshman and redshirt sophomore before being promoted to starter ahead of the 2025 season.

Simpson will be eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft. Given his redshirt status, he can also return to school as a senior and enter the 2027 NFL Draft, if he so desires.

Simpson’s name has floated in draft talks in recent weeks. Still, he remains an unknown entity among draft experts. He hasn’t been included in any official mock drafts, per NFL Mock Draft Database -- a website which tracks college players’ draft prospects.
With his showcases as of late, that very well could change.
