The most prestigious individual award in American sports was awarded to USC quarterback Caleb Williams on Saturday.

Williams beat out Ohio State's C.J. Stroud, TCU's Max Duggan and Georgia's Stetson Bennett to take home the 45-pound bronze Heisman Trophy, earning an immortal place in the history of the award and, indeed, all of college football.

The Trojans signal-caller earned the honor by completing 66 percent of his passes for 4,075 yards and 37 touchdowns to four interceptions while adding 372 yards and 10 touchdowns rushing.

Despite winning the Heisman, he did acknowledge one thing his fellow finalists had over him at that moment.

"I may be standing up here today," Williams told Bennett, Duggan and Stroud during his acceptance speech, "but y'all got to go the College Football Playoff. Guess you can’t win them all."

Voters clearly valued the finalists' contributions to their teams as they related to the Playoff: The lone player in New York to not make the Playoff was Williams, and he was a win away vs. Utah in the Pac-12 championship from leading the Trojans to the CFP.

The Heisman Trophy is one heck of a consolation prize.

Williams officially is the seventh Trojan to take home the top award in college football (Reggie Bush is not recognized by the Heisman Trust). He is also the first Trojan to win the trophy since Bush in 2005.
