Dylan Raiola transfer decision leaves Nebraska Cornhuskers' storied football history in the past image

The Nebraska Cornhuskers had their answer at the most important position in sports.

When Dylan Raiola, the No. 1 QB in his high school class, flipped from Georgia to the 'Huskers, it was a chance for Nebraska to return to the glory days.

But then in two seasons, Nebraska remained mostly irrelevant outside of Lincoln.

Raiola had his moments, flashy plays, the kind that made the Patrick Mahomes comparisons he leaned into seem not too outlandish.

As a team, though, Nebraska still wasn't good enough. A star quarterback wasn't enough to bring back the glory days.

And now that QB is gone.

Raiola intends to enter the transfer portal, ESPN's Pete Thamel reported on Monday.

He'll be potentially the most sought-after player in the entire portal. Every program with even a bit of a quarterback need will look into Raiola.

His 2025 season ended early with injury, and that'll be the only potential hold-up as teams look into him as a transfer candidate.

Georgia will pop up as a candidate, given that Raiola was committed there until late in his recruitment. The Bulldogs could lose Gunner Stockton after the season (Stockton did walk at Senior Day).

Texas Tech will come up, having revitalized the program and as the place that Mahomes did his work in college.

They won't be the only candidates, either.

But at the end of the day, it won't be Nebraska anymore. And it's not clear when, in this new world of college football, the answer will ever be Nebraska again.
