College football rankings 2022: Alabama, Ohio State top AP Preseason Poll image

Alabama is No. 1 in the AP Preseason Poll for the seventh time under Nick Saban.

The Crimson Tide received 54 of 63 first-place votes and will start the season at No. 1 for the fourth time in the last six seasons. Alabama has won a national title in only one of those seven seasons when it started as the Preseason No. 1, and that was in 2017.

Ohio State, which received six first-place votes, opened at No. 2. The Buckeyes finished 11-2 in 2021 but are the heavy favorites to win the Big Ten because of a loaded offense under fourth-year coach Ryan Day.

Georgia, which won the national championship in 2020, is ranked No. 3. The Bulldogs received three first-place votes.
