The latest College Football Playoff rankings saw a significant shake-up for two specific SEC teams.
While 23 teams in the top 25 either stayed put or rose in the rankings, Alabama and Texas both fell hard this week. Those also happened to be the two biggest losers from over the weekend, which the committee clearly saw as detrimental.
Both teams are part of a competitive SEC, which features almost half of the teams in this week's projected field. While there are benefits for the Crimson Tide and Longhorns to play in such a tough conference, there are also elements that are hurting both of their chances.
Here's a breakdown of where Alabama and Texas goes from here.

Why did Alabama fall to No. 10 in latest CFP Rankings?
Alabama lost to Oklahoma on Saturday, resulting in the Crimson Tide falling six spots in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. Previously, Alabama was ranked No. 4 and set to earn a bye, but now they are No. 10 and the last at-large team in the field.
Meanwhile, every other team in the top 10 won over the weekend. That includes Oklahoma, who had the pleasure of beating Alabama to get the No. 8 spot, and Georgia, who handled Texas to take the Crimson Tide's spot at No. 4.

Why did Texas fall to No. 17 in latest CFP Rankings?
Texas suffered a blowout loss to Georgia on Saturday, which significantly hurt the Longhorns' standing in the College Football Playoff rankings. After entering last week at No. 10, Texas fell all the way to No. 17 behind many other teams fighting for at-large spots.
The Longhorns have three losses on the year, and while two of them are to top-four teams, they had their worst loss of the year over the weekend. With other teams around them at two losses, Texas couldn't keep it's spot in the field.

Can Alabama still make CFP?
Despite the loss to Oklahoma, Alabama still likely controls its own destiny. The Crimson Tide have two games left on their schedule, a light game Eastern Illinois and the Iron Bowl vs. Auburn.
As long as Alabama wins those two games, the Crimson Tide should be able to earn an at-large bid in the College Football Playoff. However, one more loss would probably bump them out of the field entirely.
Can Texas still make CFP?
Texas is in trouble when it comes to the College Football Playoff. The Longhorns had the largest drop of all teams in the top 25, and now sit behind several one- and two-loss teams who are also fighting for at-large bids.
The Longhorns now have three losses on the year, which is probably too many to make the Playoff. Even if they win out, which would include a win over Texas A&M to end the year, it's unlikely to be enough to make the final 12-team field without a lot of help.
