College football updated polls: AP Top 25, Coaches Poll rankings released for 2025 season image

The Preseason Polls are in, and the Longhorns are a consensus No. 1 to start the 2025 college football season.

Texas is No. 1 in the Preseason AP Top 25 and USA Today UFCA Coaches Poll, a clean sweep that matches with Sporting News Post-Spring Top 25

Penn State is ranked No. 2 in the Preseason AP Top 25, which is a slight difference from the Coaches Poll, which has Ohio State at No. 2. The Buckeyes, the defending national champion, have not lost to the Nittany Lions since 2016.

Sporting News looked at the AP Poll and Coaches Poll and compared that to our Top 25. Texas, Ohio State and Penn State are the top three teams in that consensus poll. Georgia and Notre Dame round out that top five, even though Clemson, which is No. 6, is ranked No. 4 in the AP Poll.

Remember, the rankings do not necessarily reflect who makes the first 12-team College Football Playoff because there are five automatic qualifiers from the five highest-ranked conferences. Some teams ranked in the AP Top 10 might not get at-large bids.

Here is how the AP Preseason Top 25 compares with the Coaches Poll and Sporting News Top 25.
