Bear Bachmeier threw for 296 yards and accounted for two touchdowns as No. 12 BYU dominated from the opening snap in a 44-13 rout of TCU on Saturday night.
Bachmeier added 59 yards and a rushing score, becoming the first BYU player since Virgil Carter in 1966 to record at least one passing and rushing touchdown in seven games in a season.
The freshman had 239 passing yards by halftime as the Cougars (9-1, 6-1 Big 12, No. 12 CFP) scored on their first seven drives and did not punt until the fourth quarter.
LJ Martin rushed for 88 yards and a score as BYU piled up long drives and converted all five red-zone trips. They held the ball for 36 minutes and also committed a season-low two penalties.
“We can do some really good things when everybody plays clean football,” BYU coach Kalani Sitake said.
TCU (6-4, 3-4 Big 12) had only 15 first downs and went 1-of-10 on third down. Josh Hoover threw for 183 yards with two interceptions, including a 68-yard pick-six by Tanner Wall late in the fourth quarter.
“They put us on our heels quickly,” TCU coach Sonny Dykes said.
