Blake Horvath injury update: Navy QB exits vs. USF after run image

The Navy Midshipmen held a 24-16 lead midway through the third quarter against South Florida.

That's when star quarterback Blake Horvath sprinted toward the right sideline to convert a fourth-and-3.

But when Horvath jogged back to the huddle, he felt something and went down to the turf.

He exited the game, and his backup Braxton Woodson took over on what turned out to be three quick plays before a punt.

Blake Horvath injury update

Horvath was initially holding his right leg. When the trainers came out, they propped it up as if stretching it out for a cramp.

A cramp would often have just a quick absence, but Horvath missed the next three plays and then watched the punt.

Horvath appeared to be surrounded by trainers on the sideline but standing with his helmet as ESPN2 went to commercial break.

ESPN's sideline reporter shared the Horvath never went into the medical tent and was keeping an eye on his right calf.

Horvath did look set to re-take the field for the following drive. And indeed, Horvath came back and led a field goal drive.

Navy was a 10-point underdog heading into Saturday but held the lead the whole game.

If Horvath couldn't continue, it'd be a big swing.

But if Horvath can get back out on the field, it'd be a big boost for the Mids.
