Big 12 Conference roasts OU's Brent Venables on X with an audacious comeback image

It's a clear sign that the college football season is in full swing when the official account of the Big 12 Conference takes to social media to make a point. That's exactly what happened earlier today, when a quote from Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables was quoted with an indirect slight to his program's former conference home.

On the topic of playing tight games in the SEC, Venables fired a stray in the direction of the Big 12 Conference.

"This [the SEC] isn't the old Big 12 days where Oklahoma destroys everybody every single week except one game of the year."

OU, coming off a Red River rebuke courtesy of their rival Texas, just dropped their first loss of the season. It happens. And in the modern landscape of college football, the idea of an untouchably dominant juggernaut plowing through the rest of the country just doesn't quite exist. But the official Big 12 account on X took notice of Venables' soundbite and took it upon themselves to educate those who didn't pay attention to Oklahoma's final seasons in their former league.

"Coach Venables lost eight conference games in his two seasons in the Big 12," the league chimed in.

Oklahoma seems to be a much improved team this year, compared to recent seasons. That said, it's important to remember that the era of Oklahoman supremacy is an age long past, and the Big 12 may not have been the helpless victims that Venables seems to remember them as.

In an age where the SEC and Big 10 seem to grab the majority of views, the Big 12 is happy to remind the nation that they have a league that hasn't been half bad themselves. Currently standing with four teams ranked in the top 25, including 7th-ranked Texas Tech and 15th-ranked BYU, both undefeated through eight weeks.
