Jesus Gomez drilled a 23-yard field goal with 1:14 remaining as Arizona State completed a furious rally from a 17-point deficit to stun No. 24 TCU 27-24 on Friday night.

The Sun Devils (4-1, 2-0 Big 12) looked overwhelmed early, falling behind in the second quarter. But quarterback Sam Leavitt and wideout Jordyn Tyson ignited the comeback, helping Arizona State score 27 of the game’s final 34 points.

TCU (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) had two fourth-quarter stops inside its own 5-yard line but still fell short.

Arizona State had opportunities to strike in the first quarter but stalled out. Backup punter Matt McKenzie’s short kicks into the wind gave TCU favorable field position, and the Horned Frogs capitalized with a first-quarter touchdown. Gomez then missed a 47-yard field goal, and TCU responded with a 71-yard drive to push the lead to 14-0.

After a failed fourth-down try by the Sun Devils, TCU added a field goal to make it 17-0. That’s when Arizona State found life. Leavitt connected with Tyson for a 57-yard touchdown, then scrambled 24 yards to set up his own 8-yard scoring run that trimmed the deficit to 17-14 at halftime.

The second half began with a goal-line stand capped by Adrian “Boogie” Wilson’s interception. Gomez tied the game with a 44-yard field goal, but TCU answered with a one-yard TD run to regain the lead at 24-17.

Arizona State squandered chances inside the 5-yard line and missed another field goal before the defense delivered. Clayton Smith and Prince Dorbah each notched key sacks, setting up one last push.

With two minutes left, Leavitt engineered a drive that ended with a fourth-down touchdown run to tie it. Moments later, Dorbah stripped TCU quarterback Josh Hoover, and Gomez atoned for earlier misses with the decisive kick.

Martell Hughes sealed the win with an interception in the final minute.

Leavitt finished with two total touchdowns, while Tyson hauled in a highlight-reel score that swung momentum.
