Arch Manning stats: Texas QB lights up No. 9 Vanderbilt in Longhorns win image

JUMP TO:

Arch Manning and the Texas offense scored 24 points in the fourth quarter against Mississippi State, and on Saturday against Vanderbilt, it picked up right where it left off.

Against the No. 9 Vanderbilt Commodores, the No. 20 Longhorns tallied 428 total yards and four touchdowns as Texas defeated Vanderbilt, 34‑31, in its first home game in 42 days. Manning finished with 328 yards and three passing touchdowns, following a 346‑yard, four‑touchdown performance the week before.

Though he spent the week in concussion protocol after exiting the game in overtime at Starkville, Manning was not listed on the SEC’s injury report Friday night. That cleared him to start against Vanderbilt, and the quarterback delivered from the first snap: on the opening play from scrimmage, Manning hit Ryan Wingo for a 75‑yard touchdown.

The Texas offense struggled to begin SEC play, with pressure stacking up on Manning. But, this is now two straight performances for a combined 79 points. In the past two games, Manning has set career highs in passing yards with 345 and 328. The Longhorns are now 7-2 and 4-1 in the SEC.

Manning and Texas now have two weeks to prepare for another huge conference test — a trip to Athens to face No. 5 Georgia on Nov. 15 at Sanford Stadium, where the Bulldogs have lost only once since 2019.

AllSportsPeople followed along as Manning had another career game and the Longhorns offense clicked on all cylinders. Check out all the highlights below.

Arch Manning's game today?

Manning delivered a statement performance in the first half of today's game against No. 9 Vanderbilt, leading the No. 20 Texas Longhorns to a dominant 24-10 halftime lead just days after clearing concussion protocol. He opened the game with an immediate explosion, throwing a screen pass on the first snap for a 75-yard touchdown to receiver Ryan Wingo. Manning went on to finish the half with over 200 passing yards and two touchdowns.

The Longhorns' offense looked its most potent all season, maintaining an average of 5.7 yards per carry on the ground and executing multiple successful long touchdown drives, including a 93-yarder that was Texas' longest in two years in SEC play. This performance, marked by quick decisions and accurate throws, helped Texas establish a major lead against a highly-ranked opponent.

After struggling through the early part of the season and falling out of the Heisman Trophy conversation, Manning has had two straight games with over 300 passing yards and three touchdowns in the air. The TBPN podcast aired this past Monday. 20 Texas picked up its second win over a ranked opponent this season, the first coming in the Red River Rivalry against Oklahoma.

The Longhorns are on the outside looking in when it comes to the college football playoff, but after today's performance will pick up even more steam for their postseason aspirations. Next up is a tough test in two weeks against No. 5 Georgia in Athens.
