Arch Manning stats today: Texas QB gets signature win as starter by spoiling Texas A&M's undefeated season image

JUMP TO:

Arch Manning and Texas had nothing going on offense, getting stifled by the 1–0 No. 3 Texas A&M Aggies as the Longhorns trailed 10-3 going into the halftime locker room.

Then, Manning and the Longhorns put up an absolute statement in the second half, coming alive to score 17 unanswered points. When Texas A&M responded to make it 20-17, Manning took it into his own hands with a 35-yard touchdown run, which served as the dagger in the Longhorns’ 27-17 win.

Manning went 8-for-21 for 51 yards in the first half, struggling against an Aggie defense that leads the SEC in sacks and has been dominant throughout the season. But, in the third quarter, Texas scored 10 points, capped off by a 29-yard score from Manning to Ryan Wingo. One play into the fourth, and Texas had a double-digit lead.

With the win, Texas advances to 9-3 on the season and 6-2 in the conference. While they will probably miss the College Football Playoff, Manning and the Longhorns went down with a fight. They become the first team since 2019 LSU — who went undefeated en route to the national championship — to win three games against top-10 opponents.

How did Arch Manning play today?

Manning and the Texas offense could not get anything going in the first half. But, after the break put on a clinic against the 11-0 Aggies.

Texas’ offense got going in the third quarter behind two Tre Wisner runs early on in drives. The first one led to a field goal, and the second saw Manning connect with Wingo on the 29-yard touchdown. Texas took a 13-10 lead and never gave it back.

A lot of times this season, Manning has had to rely on his legs. He once again did in the fourth quarter with the Longhorns leading 20-17, scrambling up the middle for a 35-yard score. The game stayed 27-17 the rest of the way.

Though he did not put up the best statistical performance, Manning got the most important thing for Texas: the win. The Longhorns defeated the No. 3 Aggies, capping off a 9-3 season.

Arch Manning live updates, highlights from Texas vs. Texas A&M

Manning, Texas beat No. 3 Texas A&M

Manning and Texas become the first team since 2019 LSU to get three AP Top-10 teams. The Longhorns finish the season 9-3 and 7-2 in SEC play.

Manning's improvement over the second half was exponential, becoming one of the top quarterbacks in the sport. He ices it with a final statement over the No. 3 team in America.

11:08 p.m.:  The Texas defense just put an exclamation point on a dominant second half, intercepting Reed for the second straight drive.

Manning and the Longhorns take over just before midfield. The Aggies have no more timeouts, meaning Texas can pretty much run the game clock out.

11:03 p.m.:  Texas just intercepted Reed in the end zone, and the Longhorns offense takes over with 3:41 remaining.

Manning and Texas are up 27-17, minutes away from their biggest win of the season.

10:53 p.m.:  Manning's legs just put Texas back up 10.

On 3rd & 3, not only does he get the first down, but scrambles 35 yards all the way to the end zone for a score.

Manning and the Texas offense have come alive this half, scoring 24 points, and Manning is at the center of it. The Longhorns lead 27-17 with just over seven minutes remaining.

10:45 p.m.:  Texas A&M has scored a touchdown to cut the lead to three.

With 9:15 remaining, Manning and Texas lead 20-17.

10:37 p.m.:  The Longhorns are unable to take much time off the clock, going three-and-out.

Though, the faith is in the defense, which has pitched a scoreless game this half. The Aggies have the ball back with 10:52 remaining.

10:32 p.m.:  A loud DKR Stadium goes up in cheers as Texas A&M gets a delay of game penalty on fourth down and has to punt.

Manning and Texas take over, up 10, with 12:31 remaining.

10:25 p.m.:  Texas takes the lead on a Nick Townsend rushing touchdown and now lead 20-10.

The Longhorns have scored 17 unanswered points after trailing 10-3 to open the half.

10:21 p.m.:  It's another big completion for Manning and Texas.

On the last play of the third quarter, the quarterback has plenty of time in the pocket and is able to hit a wide open Endries for a first down and more. He goes for 54 yards down to the Texas A&M two, and the Longhorns are six feet away from taking a two-score lead.

As time expires in the third, Manning is hyped up.

10:19 p.m.:  Manning has a big completion on his first throw of the next drive, hitting Parker Livingstone for 19 yards to the Texas 31.

Livingstone has been quiet tonight after catching and throwing for a touchdown last week.

10:18 p.m.:  Texas A&M stalls out near midfield and is forced to punt again. The Aggies are scoreless in the half.

Manning and Texas have the lead and the ball back on their 17-yard line.

Texas now leads, 13-10.

The Longhorns are looking to get into the end zone for the first time tonight.

9:45 p.m.:  On the first play of the drive, Wisner takes a carry up the middle for 48 yards down to the Texas A&M 30.

The Longhorns are in business.

9:44 p.m.:  To open up the second half, the Texas defense gets a stop. Manning and the offense have the ball back, down 10-3.

9:41 p.m.:  The second half is underway in Austin.

Manning and Texas trail by seven, with Marcel Reed and Texas A&M getting the ball first.

9:18 p.m.:  Manning gets absolutely rocked on third down, and Texas has to punt.

The Longhorns will go into the locker room scoring only three points, trailing 10-3. Manning has completed only eight of his 21 passes for 51 yards.

9:15 p.m.:  Texas is across midfield after a Manning dump pass to Wisner, with 23 seconds remaining.

9:10 p.m.: The Aggies just capped off a nine-play, 42-yard drive with a K.C. Concepcion touchdown to take a 10-3 lead.

Manning and Texas will have 56 seconds to work with to end the half. The Aggies get the ball to start the second frame.

8:54 p.m.:  Texas can't move the ball at all, actually going backwards because of a holding penalty. The Longhorns punt again.

Manning has not gotten things going, partially because of his own errors and partially because of the protection he is getting. His completion percentage is under 50% as it remains 3-3.

8:52 p.m.:  Texas A&M responds with a field goal.

Both teams are still looking for pay dirt.

Manning, Texas draw first blood

7:53 p.m.:  Texas A&M also goes three-and-out. Manning and Texas have the ball back, right above the 35-yard line.

7:48 p.m.:  Texas comes up empty on the second set of downs, and the first drive of the game ends in a punt.

7:46 p.m.:  On the first third down of the game, Manning connects with Emmett Mosley V right by the sticks for the first down.

Mosley V, who has come onto the scene late in the season, caught the ball on a curl route,

7:44 p.m.:  Texas A&M has kicked off, and we are underway in Austin.

Manning and the Texas offense, coming off a 52-point performance, have the ball first.

7:15 p.m.:  Kickoff is less than 30 minutes away from this highly-anticipated clash.

With a win, A&M makes the SEC championship. For Texas, though playoff chances are slim, a win would push them closer to the border.

7:04 p.m.:  A season ago, Manning scored the first touchdown of the game in Texas' 17-7 win against Texas A&M.

Manning played a limited number of snaps in that game. This time, he will have a bigger role.

6:50 p.m.:  Manning and Texas are ready to face No. 3 A&M in the finale.

This is the first time the Aggies are in Austin since 2010.
