Arch Manning and No. 10 Texas were surging going into Sanford Stadium, but the No. 5 Georgia reminded the Longhorns — and their red-hot quarterback — why it is the gold standard in college football, delivering a resounding 35-10 defeat on Saturday night.
The highly anticipated SEC showdown was framed as the latest opportunity for the young Manning to build on a stretch of career-best performances. However, against the relentless defense and opportunistic offense of the Bulldogs, the national spotlight was about Kirby Smart’s team. The quarterback finished completing 27-of-43 passes for 251 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the loss.
With his legendary uncle Peyton Manning in attendance, the Longhorns’ quarterback was quickly suffocated by the Georgia defense, which had one of its best games of the season. What was supposed to be a continuation of Manning's recent rhythm turned into a frustrating sequence of missed connections, ill-timed penalties, and two crucial turnovers, including an interception thrown directly into the arms of safety K.J. Bolden.
The Texas offense sputtered for much of the first half, managing only an opening-drive field goal, leaving the Longhorns trailing 14-3 at the break. A brief glimmer of hope emerged for the Longhorns faithful late in the third quarter. Following a huge defensive stop that gifted the offense a short field, Manning threw a sharp touchdown strike to receiver Ryan Wingo, narrowing the gap to 14-10.
But the Bulldogs, led by quarterback Gunner Stockton’s career night, had a dominant fourth-quarter display — which they have become known for — that turned a tight game into a blowout in a matter of minutes. Stockton, who finished with five total touchdowns, engineered a decisive scoring drive, followed by a risky but successful onside kick recovery that completely shifted the momentum. Georgia then marched down the field for another score, crushing the Longhorns’ spirit and stretching the lead to an insurmountable 25-point margin.
When the dust settled on the 35-10 rout, the lasting takeaway was not Manning’s flashes of brilliance, but the reality check delivered by the defending conference powerhouse. For Texas, the loss is a painful dagger to its College Football Playoff aspirations. The Longhorns dropped to 7-3 on the season and 4-2 in the SEC.

How did Arch Manning play today?
The matchup between No. 10 Texas and No. 5 Georgia was billed as the ultimate proving ground for quarterback Manning, and for much of the night in Sanford Stadium, the test proved overwhelming.
Coming off two consecutive games of exceptional production, Manning faced a Georgia defense that specialized in suffocating quarterbacks and turning pressure into momentum. His drives often stalled due to consistent pocket pressure, missed connections with receivers (including multiple crucial drops by his targets), and a costly interception thrown right into the arms of Bolden. Manning was sacked multiple times — against a Georgia unit that was last in the SEC in sacks going into tonight — and struggled to find the deep rhythm that defined his recent surge, leading the Longhorns into halftime with only a field goal on the board and trailing 14-3.
Manning engineered a critical response drive late in the third quarter, maneuvering the ball into the red zone after a defensive turnover. He capped the short-field opportunity with a sharp touchdown pass to Ryan Wingo, narrowing the score to 14-10.
However, the fourth quarter was a demonstration of the Bulldogs' championship pedigree, transforming Manning's performance from a gritty comeback bid into a learning opportunity. As Georgia's offense pulled away with a decisive 14-point run, the young quarterback faced the pressure of a huge deficit, leading to rushed throws and stalled possessions. The 35-10 final score is a reminder that while Manning has all the tools, the execution needed to dismantle a top-tier SEC team still requires growth.
