NC State running back Hollywood Smothers intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reported on Thursday

The move comes after a breakout 2025 season in which Smothers emerged as one of the ACC most productive rushers. The redshirt sophomore was third in the conference, carrying the ball 160 times for 939 yards and six touchdowns. He posted four 100-yard rushing performances, becoming a key piece of the Wolfpack offense down the stretch.

Smothers finishes his NC State career with 1,510 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in 22 games. The Charlotte, North Carolina native began his college career at Oklahoma before transferring to NC State following the 2023 season, where he quickly carved out a significant role in the backfield.

NC State closed the regular season by winning three of its final four games to finish 7-5. The Wolfpack are scheduled to face Memphis in the Gasparilla Bowl on Friday, Dec. 19, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.
