The Michigan Wolverines are now in search of a new, permanent head coach.
Now-former Wolverines coach Sherrone Moore was fired "for cause" Wednesday afternoon amid a completion of a University investigation just two days after meeting with the media to discuss their Cheez-It Citrus Bowl matchup against the Texas Longhorns on New Year's Eve.
Now, it'll be up to interim coach Biff Poggi to lead the team to a 10-win season.
Poggi has been around the Wolverines' football program infrequently since 2016 as an analyst before eventually returning to Ann Arbor in 2021 as an Associate Head Coach.
Under Moore, Poggi returned to Ann Arbor again and coached while Moore underwent a two-game suspension earlier this season. With Moore no longer in the picture, it will be Poggi's position to lose unless the Wolverines opt to go after potential candidates for next season.
With Pat Fitzgerald and Matt Campbell having settled into Michigan State and Penn State, respectively, it's unclear if any other attractive names seem fitting in Ann Arbor.
This is certainly a developing story, and one where the wolverines will have to act quickly in order to move the season ahead and redefine their focus back on trying to win a bowl game.
Moore finished his coaching tenure 16-8, as the Wolverines beat the Alabama Crimson Tide in this past year's ReliaQuest Bowl.
