Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore will be sidelined for the team’s next two games, including the matchup against Central Michigan and the road trip to Nebraska on Sept. 20, following a self-imposed suspension tied to the ongoing fallout from the Connor Stalions sign-stealing scandal.
The suspension stems from NCAA findings regarding impermissible scouting violations and has been accepted by the governing body.
According to the NCAA, Moore is barred from entering game facilities and prohibited from contacting or communicating with staff or student-athletes during the suspension. This restriction also extends to all coaching activities between 12:01 a.m. on the first contest and 11:59 p.m. on the last contest of the suspension.
As a result, Moore will miss the week of practices leading up to the Nebraska game. Following Michigan’s 24-13 loss to Oklahoma, Moore was not ready to designate an interim head coach.
“Yeah, we'll get to that,” he said. “Right now, just like I said, I'm gonna take it right now and fix the things we gotta fix here, and then we'll get to that.”

Potential candidates for the interim role include offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, associate head coach Biff Poggi, and tight ends coach/co-offensive coordinator Steve Casula. Moore did not confirm any selections but noted the challenges of managing the team without direct involvement in practices.
“Yeah, I mean, this week I'll be able to be with them, but it's hard,” he said. “It's something you don't ever wanna do, but we'll handle it as a full staff and a full unit. We'll stay together as an organization and get better from it.”
The suspension forms part of broader NCAA sanctions against Michigan and its personnel, including additional recruiting penalties and a show-cause order against Moore extending beyond the 2025 season. The university’s proactive measures are intended to mitigate potential harsher punishments from the NCAA.
