The Michigan Wolverines have stunned the college football world on Wednesday evening.

Sherrone Moore has been fired from his post as head coach, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Pete Thamel.

Thamel reports the firing is "set to be for cause."

College football insider Brett McMurphy added this detail about Moore's firing:

Moore has been Michigan's full-time head coach since 2024. He also coached in place of the suspended Jim Harbaugh for four games during the 2023 national championship season.

Moore had a 16-8 record as a head coach.

The Wolverines were 8-5 in 2024 with a win in the ReliaQuest Bowl, and more importantly, a fourth consecutive win in The Game against Ohio State.

Michigan lost The Game to the Buckeyes to end this regular season.

Moore didn't coach the third and fourth games of this season due to suspension. Bill Poggi was the interim coach during those games.

The Wolverines are slated to play in the Citrus Bowl on Dec. 31 against the Texas Longhorns.

As a player, Moore was an offensive lineman for the University of Oklahoma. His assistant coaching path before Michigan included Louisville and Central Michigan.
