For schools around College Football, one of the most productive markets to recruit from is the local market. Teams would likely have some pull from players locally, and it's no different for the Michigan Wolverines.

However, recently, the Wolverines passed on the chance to recruit a local wide receiver, and he didn't forget. Years later, as a senior now with Oklahoma, Deion Burks was asked about what it was like facing Michigan in week two of the College Football Season.

In a post from Holden Krusemark of KFOR NBC on Twitter/X, Burks commented on the upcoming matchup, expressing how he's looking forward to the matchup, while calling out the Wolverines for not recruiting him, and how facing Michigan is personal for him.

Deion Burks Calls Out Michigan For Lack of Recruitment

"I can't wait till they come here," Burks said. "You know, I'm from Michigan, so it's definitely personal for me. Played them twice... definitely a nice team. They're always going to be good on defense, offense as well. I'm excited to play."

Burks alluded to the upcoming Michigan matchup being personal for him. But, he didn't go into detail. That is, until he was asked if the Wolverines recruited him coming out of high school.

"No, Michigan did not recruit me. So it's personal, it's personal." Burks said.

The Wolverines didn't end up recruiting Burks, who went on to play for Purdue from 2021 to 2023, and finally landed with Oklahoma in 2024, where he's remained for his Senior season in 2025.

He now gets to face Michigan for the third time in his career, except this time, he's facing the Wolverines as they come to his home field, as the Wolverines come to Oklahoma to face the Sooners.

The Michigan native was clearly interested in coming to Michigan based on his comments, and the Wolverines passed on the opportunity to bring him home.

With Purdue, he hauled in 47 receptions for 629 yards and seven touchdowns in his best season in college football so far. In 2024, with Oklahoma, he had 31 receptions for 245 yards and three touchdowns.

Neither were dominant seasons, but in 2025, he's gotten off to a strong start. He hauled in seven receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown in the Sooners' 35-3 win over Illinois State in week one of the college football season.

Now, for his week-two matchup, he's set to face the Wolverines coming off their week-one win over New Mexico. For Burks, the matchup is one he's looking forward to: "I can't wait."
