Former Oklahoma running back Taylor Tatum has committed to Michigan via the transfer portal. He gives the Wolverines another key addition as they continue reshaping their roster for the 2026 season.
Tatum spent two seasons with the Sooners and was one of the most highly touted recruits in the country at No. 40 overall, along with being the No. 1 running back in the 2024 class.
In his debut collegiate season, Tatum appeared in 11 games and made three starts, rushing for 278 yards and three touchdowns on 56 carries. He also contributed in the passing game, catching five passes for 41 yards and a touchdown.
Despite that productive freshman campaign, Tatum saw action in just one game in 2025. Injuries and reported ball-security issues limited his opportunities as Oklahoma’s backfield depth evolved.
Tatum becomes the fourth player to commit to Michigan through the transfer portal this offseason. At the time of his pledge, he was rated as the No. 25 running back in On3’s 2026 Transfer Portal Player Rankings. He is expected to factor prominently into Michigan’s offense as the program enters a new era under head coach Kyle Whittingham, who had a successful run at Utah.
Michigan finished last season 9-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play, continuing its push back toward national prominence after winning the 2023 national championship.
