No. 1 recruit in the nation confirms no timeline on his decision image

College football teams are now in the middle of day two of the national early signing day period. On Wednesday, many high school prospects put pen to paper making their commitment to teams official.

While many big names have signed already, some high-profile names have not. Five-star prospects like receiver Chris Henry Jr, running back Savion Hiter, and receiver Jalen Lott at the time of publication have not officially signed with any team.

Defensive Lineman Lamar Brown out of University Lab in Erwinville Louisiana has not only not signed but also given no timetable to do so. Brown is ranked as the No. 1 player in the class regardless of position, according to the ESPN 300 and On3.

The six foot four-inch, 286 pound five-star prospect is one of only two players ranked in the top 30 who have yet to put pen to paper. The other player is a top ten ranked player and an NFL legacy. Chris Henry Jr who recently put delayed his signing as he entertains a late push from Oregon and other competing schools.

Brown's decision held up by Kiffin's finalized coaching staff

ESPN was told a timeline for Brown to sign remains “up in the air”. The prevailing logic is simple and not outside the realm of understandable. Brown is not expected to sign during this week’s early signing period at all. Following a meeting with LSU staff, it was determined that Brown would wait for Coach Kiffin to finalize his LSU staff before making any official signing.

Per ESPN’s sources, Brown’s representation spoke with LSU staff on Wednesday, but no official signing was made. The Wednesday conversations “fueled fresh optimism that Brown will sign with LSU” per ESPN. While Brown does not seem interested in reopening his recruitment for competing offers, it does suggest Brown is waiting to see the final coaching staff first.

All things considered, Wednesday was not an unconditional recruiting win for LSU on the heels of introducing Kiffin. The Tigers signed nine players with varying degrees of star ratings, none as significant as Brown.

They also lost three-star receiver Kervin Johnson who flipped from LSU back to Ole Miss. LSU headed into Thursday with four of their seven ESPN 300 prospects unsigned. Fellow defensive lineman Deuce Geralds also decided against signing but claims a final decision will be reached by Friday.

According to ESPN, Brown has forged significant relationships with defensive coordinator Blake Baker and interim head coach Frank Wilson. Both of which have not been confirmed for Kiffin’s coaching staff as of yet. Based on Brown’s comments, it seems a fair assumption that he will not likely not sign with a program until after Kiffin has finalized his coaching staff.
