Through two weeks, the LSU Tigers offense hasn't looked as great as one might've expected. Coach Brian Kelly went out and got a lot of talent, and QB Garrett Nussmeier returned for another year. It's resulted in an underwhelming 40 points in two games against Clemson and Louisiana Tech.
The offense had an interception and a missed field goal to start against Louisiana Tech and never really got going even in a 23-7 win that should've been a lot easier. It has ESPN's Bill Connelly a little concerned for Week 3 against the Florida Gators.
The biggest reason LSU is still unbeaten is because of their defense, which has yielded just 17 points in two games. "They held the Bulldogs to 154 yards and a 3-for-13 performance on third downs, and that was all that ended up mattering," Connelly said.
Regardless, Nussmeier was "anything but sharp" on Saturday. He had three sacks and 44 passing attempts resulted in just 210 yards passing despite Barrion Brown recording a solid 94-yard receiving day.
"Running back Caden Durham gained just 29 yards in 13 carries, too. The Tigers got away with it, but with a frustrated Florida team visiting next week, the offense will need to dial back in next Saturday," Connelly said. The Gators got upset in astonishing fashion, and they could be motivated more than a team that has coasted a little bit on offense. The Tigers will need to step it up to avoid being upset themselves.
