LSU star Garrett Nussmeier suffers catastrophic drop in QB rank image

It's not been the start to the season that Garrett Nussmeier would've hoped. A middling performance against Clemson (in a win) in the opener can be excused since Clemson has a fantastic team and defensive line, but Louisiana Tech doesn't have the same excuse.

Nussmeier couldn't really get the LSU Tigers off the ground last week. The QB started poorly and never really got much better, prompting an incredible slip in CBS Sports' David Cobb's QB rankings

Cobb had Nussmeier as the number two quarterback in the country after Week 1, and after an underwhelming game against Louisiana Tech, he's ranked 18th.

"Nussmeier underthrew an open receiver on his second attempt and was intercepted in a 23-7 LSU win over Louisiana Tech last week," Cobb wrote. "It was emblematic of the sloppy showing that was to come for the Tigers. He'll need to be better against Florida."

The Tigers have survived underwhelming offensive play thus far. They've only scored 40 points in the two games, but they're winning because they've only yielded 17 on the defensive side. That can't continue in Week 3 against Florida, so Nussmeier is going to have to return to form.
