The LSU Board of Supervisors will hold a meeting Friday to discuss former head coach Brian Kelly’s lawsuit seeking his full buyout, according to a report by On3's Pete Nakos. The session is expected to take place in with closed-door discussions.

Earlier this month, Kelly filed a 48-page complaint in the 19th Judicial District Court in East Baton Rouge, arguing LSU never “formally terminated” him following his Oct. 26 dismissal.

The school fired Kelly one day after a 49-25 home loss to Texas A&M, with then-athletic director Scott Woodward citing on-field performance. Woodward has since been fired with Verge Ausberry as the new athletic director.

Kelly alleges LSU is attempting to classify his firing as “for cause” in order to avoid paying the $54 million buyout owed under his contract. According to the report, LSU officials informed Kelly’s camp during a call that the school believed grounds for termination for cause existed, which is a stance Kelly’s attorneys say was raised for the first time.

The report also states LSU attempted multiple settlement offers, including $25 million and $30 million. Kelly’s attorneys further alleged that someone from Gov. Jeff Landry’s office was expected to contact Kelly regarding the buyout, after Landry publicly called it a “$53 million liability.”

LSU is searching for their next head coach with two weeks left in the season.
