Lane Kiffin’s LSU debut now has a date and a key non-conference opponent. The Tigers will open the 2026 season on Sept. 5 at Tiger Stadium against Clemson, marking the first-ever meeting between the two high-profile coaches and the first test for Kiffin.

The matchup offers no easing-in period for the former Ole Miss coach, who arrived in Baton Rouge with outsized expectations.

The was no traditional tune-up waiting for Kiffin. LSU will launch a new era against one of college football’s most consistent national contenders.

Under Dabo Swinney, Clemson has spent the past decade shaping the championship landscape. However, this year feel short of expectations. But the Tigers remain a disciplined team known for defensive toughness.

On the other hand, Kiffin is known for his wide-open offensive approach. He will be tasked with breaking through a Clemson defense already coming into next year ready.

With two powerhouse brands, two top coaches and a nationally televised stage. Kiffin’s first game at LSU will offer an immediate gauge of where the Tigers stand and where his tenure might be headed in the early going.
