Charlie Weis Jr.’s name is gaining real traction in NFL coaching circles as teams begin mapping out potential staffs for the upcoming cycle. Now a few league sources indicate the interest is legitimate.

According to reporting from Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, Charlie Weis Jr., the offensive coordinator with the Ole Miss Rebels, has surfaced repeatedly in early discussions tied to NFL openings. The Philadelphia Eagles have inquired about Weis Jr. As they reshape their offensive staff following the removal of Kevin Patullo as play caller, though Patullo is expected to remain with the organization in a reduced role.

Philadelphia’s recent history has made the job especially attractive. After a late-season collapse in 2023, head coach Nick Sirianni retooled his staff by adding Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio. The two moves paid off with a Super Bowl run in 2024. With that track record, high-profile play callers are again drawing attention as potential difference-makers.

Weis Jr., 32, has built one of the most productive offenses in the country since joining Ole Miss in 2022. His 2024 unit rewrote the program’s record book, setting school marks in total offense, passing yards and yards per play while ranking among the national leaders in scoring, efficiency and completion percentage. Those results earned Weis Jr. The Graphite Award as the SEC’s top offensive play caller.

His NFL appeal extends beyond raw production. Weis Jr. Played a central role in developing Jaxson Dart, now a first-round pick of the New York Giants, and helped elevate Trinidad Chambliss into a potential NFL prospect. ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported the Giants have also explored Weis Jr. As a possible staff addition, particularly given Dart’s success under his system.

Weis Jr. Is no stranger to high-pressure environments, having worked under Lane Kiffin and coached through the College Football Playoff. While NFL interest is heating up, Weis Jr. Has agreed to a three-year, $7.5 million contract with the LSU Tigers and is expected to move to Baton Rouge after Ole Miss’ CFP run ended.
