Charlie Weis Jr. surfaces as NFL coaching candidate amid LSU transition image

Charlie Weis Jr. Remains in Oxford this week, focused on guiding Ole Miss’ offense ahead of the College Football Playoff semifinal against Miami, but his name is also starting to circulated in NFL coaching circles amid LSU’s transition.

Weis continues to split time between Oxford and Baton Rouge as he prepares to become LSU’s offensive coordinator under new head coach Lane Kiffin.

At the same time, ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reported that the 32-year-old Weis has emerged as an “intriguing option” for a role on the New York Giants coaching staff.

If the move became official, he would be reunited with former Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, the Giants’ first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Dart has enjoyed a strong rookie season in New York, throwing for 2,042 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding significant production as a runner.

The reported NFL interest comes as questions persist about how many Ole Miss assistants who have signed contracts with LSU will continue coaching the Rebels through the playoff run. However, Weis reiterated after Ole Miss’ Sugar Bowl win over Georgia that he intends to finish the season in Oxford. Several offensive players praised his willingness to be there during what has been a complex personal and professional stretch.

Weis’ NFL ties run deep. Charlie Weis Sr. Began his professional coaching career with the Giants under Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells and later held prominent roles with multiple franchises, including New England with Bill Belichick and back in the Big Apple with the Jets.

Whether Weis ultimately stays on the college path or seizes an NFL opportunity, his profile continues to rise at a pivotal moment in his career. The next phase will be securing a title for his Oxford "Swan Song".
