Skip Bayless was at it again Saturday night after Indiana Hoosiers quarterback Fernando Mendoza made team history by winning the Heisman Trophy over the likes of Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love, Ohio State's Julian Sayin and Bayless's personal pick in Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia.
While watching the festivities unfold, Bayless took to 'X' to essentially send a backhanded compliment toward Mendoza and made it about himself instead.
"Congrats to Fernando Mendoza... Nice memorized, rehearsed speech... But Diego Pavia deserved this award for his performance on the field, even if his swagger and edge rubbed some voters and viewers the wrong way," Bayless wrote.
Bayless's tweet has spread like wildfire. It has 2.4 million views and over 2,500 likes since he put it out last night a little after 9 p.m. ET.
While the bias is quite apparent, it's hard to justify Bayless looking good with his opinion. It appeared nothing about Mendoza's speech was rehearsed other than the fact that he read it off a teleprompter, which is what everybody else did who spoke during the ceremony.
Nonetheless, though, it seems Bayless did his due diligence by causing a stir on social media, with many of the replies, either making fun of him or praising Mendoza for his historic achievement.
Whatever the case may be, though, it seems obvious that Bayless was not particularly pleased with the hype surrounding Indiana football or its quarterback.
In a few weeks, though, Indiana will have a chance to prove Bayless wrong, in case the Hoosiers didn't already need more motivation.
If anything, it's just more fallout from one of the most memorable ceremonies in recent Heisman Trophy history. Now, at the very least, this year's winner will have a chance to shine even brighter in the postseason and give Indiana potentially more than its first-ever CFP win.
The story continues, and quite frankly, based on where the climax, resolution and falling action are it may only just be beginning.
