The Indiana Hoosiers have had the luxury of an undefeated season and a chance to win a national title with two more wins, no matter how impressive or unimpressive they may be.

One former NFL coach, though, is impressed by the potential No. 1 overall selection in Fernando Mendoza, as his upside is as far as he chooses to take it.

"Yeah, I think he's got all the traits... He's got all the measurables," Bruce Arians told Pat McAfee. "The guy can spin it. He's athletic. Reminds me a lot of Drake May coming out, same height, speed. He can place the ball anywhere he wants to put it."

Arians said he'd be open to meeting with Mendoza after the Hoosiers finish their College Football Playoff run, whether it means advancing to the national title game or having their season end Friday against the Oregon Ducks in the Peach Bowl.

"Mendoza looks like he can handle the pressure extremely well," Arians said. "He seems very bright. I'd love to sit down with him, put him on the board, and get to know him a little better. But he just looks like he's got the cerebral part down pat."

Earning a comparison to Maye is a compliment in itself, though, especially considering he had to undergo a complete overhaul offensively and has helped guide the New England Patriots to their first playoff berth since 2021.

Whether Mendoza becomes an oddly similar player to Maye remains to be seen, but it's apparent people in NFL circles are paying attention.
