Indiana Hoosier fans and scoreboard watchers – cancel any Saturday plan and strap in this coming weekend.
The Hoosiers (11-0, 8-0 Big Ten) get a much-needed week of rest before Week 14's regular season finale against the Purdue Boilermakers on Black Friday, but there is still much to be determined even without a game on the books.
The Hoosiers, regardless of what may happen against the Boilermakers (2-9, 0-8 Big Ten) in their game next week, can clinch a conference title berth from the comfort of their couches.
Based upon how the Big Ten title game tiebreaker scenarios are playing out, the Hoosiers should be rooting for two league games to go a certain way.
The games to highlight are the Michigan Wolverines' trip to College Park to play a Maryland Terrapins team in the midst of a midseason collapse. The other game is the arguable "main event" in Big Ten play this Saturday, with the Oregon Ducks and USC Trojans locking horns in Eugene.
Both games are occurring during the mid-afternoon window, giving college football fans ample time to flip between them.
In particular, Hoosier fans are rooting for upset bids in the simplest form. The first step requires the Terrapins to upset the Wolverines at home, which would prevent them from clinching a 10-2 regular season and all but eliminate the Wolverines from non-bowl College Football Playoff contention.
Elsewhere, given the Hoosiers defeated the Ducks on the road in recent weeks, they would need the Trojans to shock the college football world to complete the puzzle and send the Hoosiers home to Indianapolis on Saturday, Dec. 6.
While unlikely given the Terrapins' recent stretch of bad luck in recent weeks, crazier things have happened.
There is also the highly improbable possibility the Hoosiers could miss the title game altogether, but that's wrapped into its own story.
Regardless of whether the Hoosiers clinch their spot in the title game this week or next with a win against the Boilermakers in Week 14, it's there for the taking.
Now, they must execute to keep their dream season alive and roll into the CFP as a popular pick to go all the way.
Only time will tell.
