One of the most memorable wins in the last quarter-century against Alabama came courtesy of Johnny Manziel for Texas A&M.

Johnny Football was one of the most exciting players of his time, but that was just a regular season game.

On Thursday night, Indiana's Fernando Mendoza matched some Manziel history during the College Football Playoff quarterfinal.

ESPN Insights shared these stats:

  • Alabama blitzed Mendoza a season-high 12 times
  • Mendoza against the blitz was 8-for-8 for 161 passing yards and 3 passing TDs
  • He's the first QB with 3 passing TDs vs. The Alabama blitz in one game since Manziel in 2013.

That's quite the feat by Mendoza.

Alabama was doing anything it could to disrupt the rhythm of the Heisman Trophy winner.

Instead, he wasn't bothered at all. When extra pass rushers came, Mendoza knew he'd have someone available down the field, and he took advantage over and over.

It's the worse loss, by score, that Alabama has had in a long time.

But it was also just the Heisman winner leading the No. 1 team in the country to a convincing victory.

Indiana in the national semifinals? Sure, when you've got a QB playing this well, anything is possible.
