CFB Power Rankings suggest Indiana is top team, not Ohio State image

The AP Poll has the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes on top. If the College Football Playoff rankings were out this week, it is fair to assume they would also have the Buckeyes up there. But at least in the eyes of one college football insider, OSU isn't the top team. Indiana is.

In CBS Sports insider Brandon Marcello's eyes, Indiana is the best team in the country right now. They have kept that ranking as they're unbeaten and haven't done anything worthy of dropping, nor has OSU done anything, in Marcello's opinion, worthy of usurping the crown.

This comes after a crushing victory over a team that had been playing pretty well. "The Hoosiers drilled resurgent UCLA 56-6 for their third win by 50 points or more this season," Marcello said. "Curt Cignetti has built a relentless machine in Bloomington with a Heisman Trophy frontrunner (QB Fernando Mendoza) and an equally impressive defense. Next up is a trip to Maryland."

The Hoosiers were a surprise playoff contender last year, but they came in this year with higher expectations. Yet, despite that, they've managed to exceed those expectations. They will undoubtedly be one of the top seeds in the Playoff when it's all said and done. They do not have a ranked opponent on the schedule anymore, though Penn State was once the number two team in the nation.
