Unexpectedly, Illinois coach Bret Bielema will be faced with a unique challenge entering next fall: finding a new kicker.

Two days after Naperville, Illinois, product David Olano drilled the winning field goal to stun the Tennessee Volunteers in the Music City Bowl 30-28, Olano took to social media to share that the heroics of Tuesday night's win were indeed a final act in Champaign.

Olano wrote how proud he was to be an Illini, but after reflection, it was best to enter the transfer portal.

"I want to sincerely thank Coach Bielema, Coach Discher, Coach Miller, and Coach Hurd for believing in me and giving me an opportunity to play at this University," Olano wrote.  "To all the staff, coaches, and teammates that have been a part of my journey since the beginning, thank you for the immense amount of support and guidance you have shown me. Illinois has shaped me in ways I'll cherish for the rest of my life. I'm grateful to have Illinois be a part of me forever."

Olano, who has a year of eligibility remaining, is content with his decision to try something new.

"This decision was not taken lightly, and while I'm excited for what lies ahead, a piece of me will always belong to Illinois. I will be forever thankful for this program," Olano wrote. "ILL"

Responses from Illinois fans were positive, but also surprised. Olano met with reporters after the win

"Right off my foot," Olano said upon knowing whether his kick would be good or not.

Nonetheless, though, in the current era of college football, Illinois will have to act swiftly to find a suitable replacement for Olano, who finished the season as an 87 percent kicker

It appears there is no hard feelings, though, which makes Olano's decision rightfully his.
