Saturday’s SEC Championship Game will have the whole college football landscape buzzing. The meeting between Georgia and Alabama was broken down by the ESPN College GameDay podcast
Both Pete Thamel and Rece Davis see the rivalry that has shaped the conference for more than a decade as a fight to the end. What can everyone expect in Atlanta?
Thamel leaned toward Georgia, citing the Bulldogs’ stability and Alabama’s injury issues entering the matchup. He noted the Crimson Tide could be without running back Jam Miller and said Georgia has “learned the skill” of winning close games behind quarterback Gunner Stockton.
Davis initially sided with Alabama’s longstanding confidence in the series, even amid Georgia’s national surge under Kirby Smart. But he still picked the Bulldogs in a tight finish. He predicted Georgia would “repeat as SEC champion and nip Alabama,” potentially leaving the Tide sweating out Selection Sunday.
Smart said this week the matchup carries playoff-level stakes for both programs. With postseason hopes on the line, the GameDay crew is backing Georgia to finish on top.
