The Florida Gators will need to find a new quarterback.

DJ Lagway is heading to the transfer portal.

On3's Pete Nakos reported Monday morning that Lagway plans to enter the portal and seek a new program to play for.

Lagway has spent the past two seasons with the Gators. He was a major recruiting win in the Class of 2024, and he has played in 24 games across two seasons with Florida.

Things were looking up for the Gators when they won five out of their last six games a year ago with Lagway at the helm, but that momentum didn't carry over into this season.

Lagway completed 63.2% of his passes in 2025 for 2,264 yards, 16 TDs and an SEC-worst 14 interceptions. He threw 23 interceptions in 24 games with Florida.

Coming out of high school, Lagway was slotted in the Rivals Industry Ranking as the No. 1 quarterback in the country.

Because of that, he's going to be about as sought-after as a transfer QB could be, even after inconsistencies in his time with the Gators. The tools and the pedigree are too good to ignore.

Florida couldn't quite get things to work with Lagway and will have to reset.

Some team is going to be able to celebrate adding such a highly touted QB. Back in Gainesville, the Gators will be looking for a solution to an opening at the most important position in sports.

Florida went just 4-8 this season.

The Gators' most notable potential returner at QB is Tramell Jones Jr., who just completed his freshman season and was a 3-star recruit out of high school.
