Florida Gators football coach Billy Napier has inspired unfathomable confidence from the media in his team after a 29-21 upset win over the Texas Longhorns at the “Swamp” in Week 6.

Now, before UF takes on the TAMU Aggies, USA Today’s Paul Myerberg is predicting a revival in Gainesville for a sleeping giant program that has the talent to be better than 2-3 heading into Week 7. Most importantly for Napier, Myerberg predicts his continued employment at the University of Florida.

“Florida notches a second ranked win in as many weeks by knocking off Texas A&M. The key will be protecting DJ Lagway, who was kept pretty clean in the upset of Texas and responded with his best game on the year. (The Gators weren’t able to do that against LSU, contributing to Lagway’s five-interception nightmare.) Another SEC win as an underdog would even UF’s record at 3-3 and raise the possibility that Billy Napier could save his job against all odds,” Myerberg wrote.

On3’s Brett McMurphy reported on Wednesday that Napier would be fired “barring a miracle finish” to the 2025 season.

“In the last 75 years, Napier is Florida’s 12th full-time head football coach, dating back to 1950. Napier is the only one in that time who has not finished a season ranked in the final Associated Press poll,” McMurphy wrote.

“And barring what multiple sources called ‘a magical run, a miracle finish’ to this season, he won’t have the opportunity in 2026.”

The Napier whiplash in North Central Florida has reached a zenith heading into a Saturday night clash with TAMU at Kyle Field. Beating the No. 5 team in the country, and handing the Aggies their first loss before a three-week road trip, no less, would send the SEC into disarray. Certainly, it would force everyone to reconsider the conference’s hierarchy.

Most notably, where Florida fits into it. Because they may not be the Napier-coached doormat that three losses to the USF Bulls, LSU Tigers, and Miami Hurricanes had everyone thinking they were.
