Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders shared his experience on Saturday morning, a day before he holds a clipboard for his Cleveland Browns’ matchup against the Green Bay Packers:
He woke up excited that the Buffs play tonight against the Wyoming Cowboys.
That’s assuming he wasn’t talking about his father’s potential status on the hot seat if CU loses to Wyoming as a two-score favorite at Folsom Field. After starting 1-2 with a 36-20 road loss to the Houston Cougars in Week 3 and a 27-20 home loss to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Week 1, Coach Prime would see intense scrutiny from the Denver and national media.
Deion would never be at actual risk of getting fired. But it’s clear from his beef with the Denver Post’s Sean Keeler last year that what the media says weighs heavily on his mind. Enough hot seat talk, as he’s recovering from bladder cancer and several toe amputations over the last several years, and he may call it a career.
As for Shedeur, this tweet isn’t a common occurrence. Sanders didn’t have any comments during or after the UH loss last week, and only shared a “fire” emoji in response to Ryan Staub hitting his pose against the Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens in a 31-7 win.
The last time he made a comment was after the Georgia Tech loss, when he said, “They’ll figure things out. They have a great head coach.”
We’ll see if he’ll respond to his own excited feeling tonight as Colorado faces a must-win situation in Boulder.
Something tells this writer that an unfathomable loss would probably mean silence from CU’s record-breaking former quarterback.
