On a recent episode of Nightcap, Shannon Sharpe, Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson, and Johnny Manziel sounded off on Colorado’s latest stumble, a 35-21 loss to TCU that dropped the Buffaloes to 2-4 and further clouded their path to a bowl game.
“If you lose the turnover battle four to nothing, your chance to win is like eight percent. History says you’re smoked,” said Manziel.
Quarterback Kaidon Salter shouldered most of the blame after throwing three first-half interceptions and coughing up a late fumble that led to the Horned Frogs’ decisive touchdown. Sharpe said the mistakes were too much for any team to overcome. “That quarterback, he killing ’em.”

Ocho echoed the frustration. “You gotta have quarterback play that’s somewhat consistent…And you can’t turn the ball over. That’s the difference between competing and collapsing.”
Sharpe said it was almost remarkable Colorado hung around at all. “The mere fact that you tied at the half after throwing three picks is amazing. The defense actually played well.”
The Buffs held TCU to just 94 rushing yards, but couldn’t find offensive rhythm. “They’re really missing Shedeur right now. You can feel it, that calm, that poise, that consistency. It’s hard watching because I want Prime to succeed,” said Manziel.
Chad Johnson pointed to the imbalance that keeps haunting Deion Sanders’ team. “If you had a run game, you wouldn’t have to throw so much. Prime’s gotta fix that balance.”
Manziel turned the conversation toward the transfer-portal path Colorado may need to take. “They’re going to have to live and die by the portal and go grab some guys who can’t get on the field at these big schools, [and find] guys who still have the allure of playing for Prime.”
Sharpe added a reality check about Colorado’s recruiting and financial limitations. “Ain’t no beach, no water, and it’s cold…They ain’t got NIL money. They can’t put no $20 million, no $25 million in there and say, ‘Okay, go get me a quarterback. Go get me a receiver, a couple DBs, and some D-line.”
Ocho wrapped the discussion by putting it back on the players who can control their own path. “Hey, but I tell you what though. If you want to be picky, if you’re in a position where you don’t want to choose Colorado and you have the skill set to show up and pop out on tape at the Alabamas, the LSUs, and the other Power Five schools, more power to you. But it’s only a handful of them young bulls that’s out there built like that.”
