A day after Colorado announced that Rick George will step down as athletic director at the end of the academic year, Deion Sanders shared his own response on Instagram and Facebook. His message was appreciative and personal, reflecting the relationship the two built since his arrival in Boulder.
Sanders chose to speak directly to his audience on social media rather than issue a formal statement. He thanked George for believing in him at a pivotal moment for the program and for supporting him through some of the most visible seasons Colorado has experienced.
“Love ya man and I appreciate the tremendous OPPORTUNITY you have given us,” Sanders wrote. “We OWE you and we are gonna do this together. Thank you for always being there, being real, being tough and being RICK GEORGE.”
He continued with another note of gratitude.
“I love you man and I appreciate you staying connected to the program. We need you.”

Deion’s words were especially meaningful and carried the tone of someone acknowledging a mentor and a partner. On numerous occasions over the last couple of years, Sanders has praised George’s leadership. Today, he left no doubt publicly that George’s presence has mattered to him and that he values the continuity of having him remain involved as a special advisor.
The Buffaloes return to the football field a week from Saturday when they host the Arizona State Sun Devils. Colorado’s season will conclude on 11/29 when they travel to Kansas State.
