Deion Sanders denies ESPN's report on Ryan Staub as Colorado's starting QB image

Will Colorado be making a change at starting quarterback?

Despite an initial report by ESPN's Pete Thamel saying Colorado named Ryan Staub as the starter, Deion Sanders said there hasn't been an official decision. The Colorado Buffaloes head coach explained his current stance during Tuesday's press conference.

"In today’s media, we don’t care about being correct anymore. We just want to be first," Sanders said. When asked about rolling with one quarterback, Sanders added, “That's the goal. I don’t want to play musical chairs at quarterback.”

Coach Prime went on to tell reporters, “I’m not confirming nothing to y’all... Staub has been doing a phenomenal job and getting a majority of the reps but I haven’t made that decision yet.”

After an impressive outing against Delaware last Saturday, Colorado is expected to make Staub the starting quarterback going forward. Friday's Big 12 conference opener against Houston will be a test for the Buffs, who look to make an impact early.

Sanders turned to Staub in the 31-7 win over first-string quarterback Kaidon Salter and blue-chip freshman Julian Lewis. The former backup to Shedeur Sanders ignited the offense, completing seven of his 10 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns.

Sanders hinted at a potential change at quarterback after the game, saying he was "Not lost for direction" on the state of the quarterback room. We'll see if that's the case on Friday night.
