Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders has the best gig in the world right now: playing on the scout team while fans clamor for him to get a chance. All while making $1.16 million this season.

It’s good to be the “Grown QB.” While speaking to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, Sanders admitted that, while pumping up his Cleveland Browns scout team teammates as his “family.”

“Whenever I get on scout team, that’s my gameday. Everybody knows. So that’s me having a game every week. I look at it, I have six games a week, so I’m happy rather than just having one game a week, on the weekends. The scout team receivers, all of us, we all know every day is gameday and we definitely approach everything in that fashion,” Sanders said.

“This is something my dad (Deion Sanders) used to say: ‘if you’re up there doing something every day, you better be getting better at it. So that’s how everything’s going. Everything we do in this building, it’s a learning thing. It’s learning every day. I’m in a great position to be sitting back, understanding the gameplan, understanding everything that the NFL is.

“I’m ready for my opportunity whenever that happens. But in this time that I’m not out there physically playing, I would say I’m growing everywhere.

“I feel like I’m handling everything good. The scout team or practice squad, whatever, we’re like a real family. You know what I mean? We’re like a real family over there, and we all play with a different purpose. That’s what I like is the team aspect of the scout team and the team aspect of the practice squad and everything like that. Because we’re all in it together and we love that.”

Sanders is facing far more scrutiny in Berea than he ever did in Boulder. On the Buffs, despite having a less-than-stellar run game both seasons with the Buffs, and a particularly poor offensive line during the 2023 campaign, Sanders was the franchise cornerstone. He and Travis Hunter were the backbone of a program that’s struggled to fill their shoes in 2025.

Now, he’s solidly QB3 in Cleveland behind Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel, with no chance of starting anytime soon.

Did Sanders peak in college? We’ll see if his NFL career will ever advance beyond the scout team, which he at least enjoys.
