Colorado AD Rick George makes bold statement about Deion Sanders' future image

Colorado athletic director Rick George issued a show of support for Deion Sanders this week. On his way out the door after stepping aside as athletic director, he shut down any suggestion that the Buffaloes’ third-year coach is on the hot seat.

After a fan on social media questioned Sanders’s future and suggested his “seat was getting hot,” George responded bluntly by saying, “The seat is not hot. We believe in what is ahead for this program.”

George message counters what many supporters are feeling. This has caused speculation surrounding Sanders, who has led Colorado to a 3-7 mark, which is the worst of his tenure thus far.

Sanders, who signed a five-year, $54 million extension in March, is owed roughly $33.6 million buyout if fired without cause. At this point, some are questioning if the Buffs are starting to regress.

Given the current situation and the impending coaching carousel, now would be the best time to make a switch with a deep pool of candidates.

"If anybody is built for adversity, I am,” Sanders said.

George’s backing is a clear indication of where Colorado stand with the football program and how they intend to ride out the "Prime Effect" to the end.

Colorado faces Arizona State on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
