Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham addressed growing uncertainty surrounding quarterback Sam Leavitt on Sunday night, offering a brief but telling message as speculation about his future intensifies.
Leavitt was the lone team captain absent from the Sun Devils’ awards banquet, according to multiple people in attendance.
As each captain was recognized individually, Dillingham paused when it came time to introduce Leavitt, instead telling the audience that the program “wished him well, whatever comes next.”

Reports indicated last month that Leavitt is likely to enter the transfer portal ahead of the 2026 season. There was speculation Leavitt’s camp has been “shopping” him to major programs in anticipation of a Jan. 2 portal entry.
Leavitt's strong production at ASU before an injury puts him as one of the most sought-after quarterbacks on the market. There are several likely landing spots, especially with the vast number of new coaches in the country.
Dillingham declined to address the rumors throughout the season, but his comments Sunday are noteworthy. This could be the time the Sun Devils will start looking for a new quarterback.
Leavitt threw for 1,628 yards and 10 touchdowns this fall before the injury. He rushed for 306 yards and five scores as the Sun Devils finished 8-4 in Big 12 play.
