Alabama's Ty Simpson put himself out of Heisman conversation with latest performance image

If the season were to end today, has Ty Simpson done enough to sway the minds of Heisman voters? That's the biggest question for the Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback, who checks in at No. 6 in On3's latest straw poll with 26 points.

The Tide have kept themselves in the conversation with a long winning streak after falling to Florida State. However, Simpson's last outing wasn't impressive. He went 11-of-16 for 147 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions against FCS opponent Eastern Illinois. In a game that Alabama dominated on defense with 34 total yards, which was fourth-best in Tide history, Simpson likely put himself out of the conversation.

Simpson still boasts 2,934 passing yards with 22 touchdowns and just four interceptions on the season. However, the EIU game will likely be too hard to ignore for Heisman voters. If that came against a top-tier SEC team and he was taken out due to injury, that becomes easier to justify. But in this case, there's no room to say he's elite.

Alabama scored 55 points in a shutout victory and Simpson accounted for zero. The concern is games like this one don’t build the momentum voters crave for a Heisman run.
