Alabama QB Ty Simpson's NFL Draft decision takes twist with $6.5 million transfer portal rumor image

Ty Simpson is heading to the NFL Draft after his first year as starting quarterback for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Or is he?

Simpson appears to have another path, if he wants it.

Alabama.com's Nick Kelly dropped a major report on Sunday night: Simpson would have the chance to return to school, go in the transfer portal and make a lot of money.

"Alabama QB Ty Simpson declared for the NFL Draft, but other college programs are still trying to get him to enter the transfer portal," Kelly wrote on X. "One offered a deal that could total $6.5 million."

That $6.5 million amount would equate to being selected between picks 6-10 in the first round of the NFL Draft for a year.

Simpson would still have the chance to be drafted highly a year from now.

There are two ways for Simpson to look at this. On the one hand, it could be tough to raise his draft stock much more. On the other hand, he's only had one season as a college starter and could probably use another year of experience in high-end college football.

This feels a bit like what happened to Carson Beck.

Beck was set to go to the NFL from Georgia, but he ended up returning to college and transferring to Miami. Now, Beck and the Hurricanes are in the national championship game.

Maybe Simpson could do that, too.
